Doctor Hormoze Goudarzi

Dr. Homoze A. Goudarzi obtained his diploma in
Natural Sciences in 1962. He then completed advanced
levels in Physics, Chemistry and Biology at Acton Technical
College in London where he completed his pre-medical college
degree with these majors. He entered Guy’s Hospital
Medical School at the University of London, England, in 1967,
where he obtained his Medical Degree in 1972. After
completion of his internship in Internal Medicine and
Cardio-thoracic surgery, he entered the Surgical Residency
program at Guy’s Hospital Medical School. He has
extensive exposure to general, vascular, thoracic, colorectal,
endocrine, gastroenterologic, and oncologic surgery, as well
as gastroenterologic endoscopy, colonoscopy, and bronchoscopy.
Dr. Hormoze Goudarzi was awarded Fellowship of Royal College of
Surgeons of England in 1977. Following this, he has had extensive
experience in surgical-anatomic teaching at Guy’s Hospital Medical
School. His post graduate experience includes pediatric surgery at
Hospital for Sick Children in Great Ormon Street, breast and oncologic
surgery at Sir Hedley Atkin’s Unit, Guy’s Hospital, Imperial Cancer
Research, intensive care unit, cardio-thoracic surgery at Guy’s
Hospital Medical School, urologic surgery at Guy’s Medical Hospital
Medical School, general and colorectal surgery at Greenwich District
Hospital, gastroenterologic and esophageal surgery at Guy’s Hospital
Medical School, as well as vascular and thoracic surgery at Guy’s
Hospital Medical School.
In 1981, he moved to the United States where he was chief resident in
surgery at New Hanover Regional Medical Center Area Health Education
Center with major responsibility in teaching. He became an instructor
in surgery from 1982 to 1984. He became a diplomate of American Board
of Surgery in 1985 and Fellow of American College of Surgeons in 1987,
and was recertified in American Board of Surgery in 1995. He has been
involved in surgical education with AHEC and has been awarded by New
Hanover Regional Hospital Area Health Education Center the
‘Professor of the Year’ for the years 1986, 1988 and 1989. He has been one
of the pioneers in laparoscopic surgery and has been one of the early
publishers of laparoscopic repair of incisional hernia as well as
laparoscopic-assisted colorectal surgery.
Dr. Hormoze Goudarzi has had training in laser therapy, endoscopic as
well as arterial and venous applications. He has
been extensively involved with micro-invasive treatment of vascular
disease, including balloon angioplasty and stent placement of
peripheral arterial system as well as laser ablation of the
incompetent varicose veins and topical laser application of the venous
system.
His present practice involves general, vascular, thoracic, endocrine,
and oncologic surgery as well as laparoscopy and micro-invasive
treatment of arterial and venous system, laparoscopic repair of hiatal
hernia and all other abdominal and incisional hernias. He is a Senior
Attending Physician at New Hanover Regional Medical Center as well as Wilmington
