Karen M. Russell, PAC received a B.S. in Biology with a minor in
Cytogenetics and Psychology while attending Kennesaw State College
just North of Atlanta. While working on her degree, she started
working part-time at Cryolife, Inc. (a biomedical laboratory that
specializes in the cryopreservation of tissue for transplant). Here
she was involved in the processing of heart valves, orthopedics, and
vascular tissue for transplant. Upon graduation, she started working
full time, after which she was promoted to Training Coordinator. Here
she was responsible for training new employees in anatomy, physiology,
and processing techniques of all tissue types. After several years of
training, Karen was then promoted to Shift Supervisor. Karen worked at Cryolife, Inc. for ten years before
she decided to return to school to
obtain her Physician Assistant degree. She attended College of West
Virginia, where she received a B.S. in Physician Assistant. After
graduation, she worked in Internal Medicine for one year before
returning to Surgery.
Marcia Barnes RN BSN is a North Carolina native. Originally
from Raleigh, she moved to Wilmington 10 years ago to attend the
University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She graduated in 1997 with
a B.S. degree in nursing. After graduating, she began working as a
float nurse for New Hanover Regional Medical Center. During her two
and a half years in this position, she gained experience in medical,
surgical, cardiology, nephrology, post partum, geriatrics,
orthopedics, neurology, and intensive care nursing. After that, she
transferred to the Endoscopy department where she worked as a staff
nurse and charge nurse for three and a half years. She has recently
joined the staff of the Vein and Laser Center of Wilmington as
Coordinator.
Sandy Yates, RN is originally from southern
Maryland and moved to the Wilmington area in Feb. 1992. She
graduated from Cape Fear Community College with her Associates
Degree in Nursing. She earned honors being inducted into the Phi
Theta Kappa National Honor Society and was listed in the National
Dean's List. She has been with Dr. Goudarzi's practice since April
1992 and serves as Clinical Coordinator. She has 24 years experience
in the medical field, including OB/GYN, Cardiology, Pathology,
Internal Medicine and Surgery.
Henry McLauchlin attended school at the US
Naval Hospital from 1952 to 1954. He graduated as a physician’s
assistant and was assigned independent duty aboard the USS Knudson,
a destroyer escort vessel, to participate in fusion device testing.
In 1956 Henry left the Navy and entered the US Air Force and studied
X-Ray at USAF Hospital Clark Air Force Base Philippines. He attended
X-Ray school in Montgomery, Alabama. After graduation, he
assisted in special procedures and became registered in X-Ray.
Henry then studied ultrasound under Dr. O.R. Hunt and M.B. Lipovan
for six years. After this time, he attended ultrasound school
and earned his registry in Vascular technology, OB/GYN, Abdomen
and small parts in 1987.
